I stayed up far later than I should have last night. I do odd things when it’s past my bedtime. Like going on Twitter “follow” sprees that baffle me the next morning,
stalking former High School adversaries on FaceBook, writing fan letters to Richard Armitage…
well, technically just one letter, but still.
I have nothing against fan letters, I’ve just never written one before. How could I possibly condense all of the things I want to tell Richard into just a few pages? Where would I even begin? I wouldn’t want to gush about him to him, that would be weird. and I wouldn’t want it to turn into the Kelly show either, that could get even weirder.
In my first draft I chose to write about you instead: how this blog and this fandom have shaped me in positive ways over the past year. It got a bit flowery at times, and a good bit of dorky and awkward sneaked in as well. One part consisted of the phrase:
a Long Time Ago (a little over a year)
In a Galaxy Far Far Away (the Internet)…I started a blog.
I seem to recall another part where I dramatically exclaimed:
Fandom will find you!
and then I told him it was safe to come out from under the covers now,
because the scary part was over.
Yeah, I think I should probably go back to the drawing board 🙄
Have any of you written a fan letter before? (please put me out of my misery and say Yes) ‘fess up and tell me, so I don’t feel so alone! and then maybe I’ll be brave enough to actually finish mine and send it…
Nowhere in Particular RA 
I wrote one to Hilary Mantel about a year ago … but I don’t think it’s really a good template. I admire your courage. I’ve never written one to Richard Armitage.

well, I haven’t actually sent it yet. I’m thinking the writing of it was probably the easy part, it’s putting it in the mailbox and walking away that will be the real challenge *bites nails*

Hahaha! I sent a fan card with notes to him when I first found him! I did get the standard response with autograph, even though I didn’t ask for one! I will give him your fan letter when I go to London in August if you want me to! I know I’m getting you a poster already and plan to have him autograph it, but I will give him your letter, too, I promise!! 😀 😀

my stomach muscles just seized up at the thought of you hand-delivering my letter to Richard *eek!* it would save me some postage though. I’m all about practicality 😉

I wrote to John Schneider when I was 5. He never wrote back. I guess 19 year old guys aren’t all about getting badly spelled love notes written in crayon. In junior high I wrote to Neil Patrick Harris and got a standard autographed (well, stamped with an autograph) picture of Doogie Howser.

I knew about your crush on John Schneider but I didn’t realize it was so serious. I just talked to my trading cards while you wrote an actual letter, you were so brave! (and much more advanced)did 5 year old you tell him his jeans were to die for? b/c they totally were (have you seen the recent commercial with the two Duke boys and the General Lee?)

Two years ago at Christmas time, my little “friend”–she dislikes the word vermin–Melissa the Mouse wrote a poem to RA. Melissa mostly forgave him for portraying a cat. Everyone has something in their past that they would rather forget. For Melissa, it was the brie incident–she did “inhale”, which caused her to rather over indulge.
And Melissa also sent RA a soft gray plaid scarf that she had originally made me buy for her nest. But then, Melissa thought RA might need the scarf for warmth more than she needed it for her nest. And gray was his signature color back then–hers being pink. She closed her accompanying note by wishing RA much holiday cheeses.
But Melissa did not hear back from RA. So she surmised that her gift and poem might have had a cat-astrophe befall them. Though she was heartened when Mr. A recently revealed that he is a dog lover. Woof!

I think Melissa probably got her name placed on the “watch” list 😉 don’t tell her I said that though, being your “little friend” I’m having visions of a machine-gun wielding mouse coming after me, complete with custom pink weaponry *sleeping with light on tonight*

Giggles! Now now, Melissa is a “mice” girl who gives herself a tongue bath regularly. And she is more likely to be packing a cocktail toothpick with the curly colored fringe on it, rather than a machine gun.
And Melissa is stealthy–she could easily give you a quick jab with her toothpick and then skitter away before you knew you had been poked. Melissa especially loves the poking feature on the Mousebook social media site for discerning critters.

The closest I came to a fan letter was to send a Haiku that I did about RA’s career (with a note) to be included in a birthday book that Calexora sent to him a couple of years ago. I still wonder what he thought of it all. Probably he was pretty weirded out! 🙂

I submitted a letter for “Words for Richard” compilation that Liliana put together to send to Richard for his 42nd Birthday. I also left greetings on RANet last year too.

I found it very hard to start writing. it was like the worst case of Writer’s Block, my mind was blank! once I got those first three sentences down though, the rest just happened…which may or may not be a good thing 😛

Oh wait, I lie. I wrote something once when I was about 8. I don’t remember who I wrote to, but it consisted of two sentences or so, the last one was something like ‘Please answer me and send a picture’ 😀

My comment wouldn’t go through yesterday for some reason… but I believe I wrote a letter in 2nd grade to a regional kids’ show that had puppets on it, and got back a postcard with all their pictures. That’s all I remember.
Now, for the important Question: Does your letter contain the words “Emotionally Compatible”?? (I notice you subtly worked it in at the end of the post 🙂 If it does, then you know what your heart is telling you to do ….. 🙂

I wrote to a teen magazine once to ask a question about an actor. I was 12 or 13 and it got published! after I jumped around the room, I started to freak out b/c it listed my full name and where I was from 😮 the magazine was “16 magazine” and the question was about a little known ginger-haired actor named Anthony Rapp, future star of “Rent” 🙂
