55 Reasons British Men are Bloody Gorgeous
3.) the way they manage confidence without cockiness
Confidence can be a tricky thing. Sometimes those who appear the most confident are actually very insecure, and those who hang back from the spotlight, surprisingly have a strong sense of self. Richard has a nice balance of the two.

He often appears relaxed and at ease, but sometimes little clues to the contrary peek through: the nervous clenched fists or the vulnerable hands-in-pockets.

I think if Richard knows the kind of atmosphere he’s going into beforehand, then he is more able to embrace and relish the experience.

At other times, it’s really helpful to have something to hide behind

Richard is quite serious about his craft. When he’s focused and unaware, the confidence is there for all to see.

this applies to “Photoshoot Richard” as well
I like how Twitter is bringing “Playful Richard” more to the forefront too.

In any case, Richard seems to have a handle on how this fame thing works. There is a special confidence in owning who you are, in all your different forms.

Sorry for the brief comment. I saw the Esquire clip in my WP reader and had to watch it a couple of times. Hence the above comment.
I love the whole post and I agree confidence can be a tricky thing. Love confidence, cockiness not so much. BTW did I miss the first two of “55 Reasons?” I see this says “3.”
Meghan had some very interesting things to say in her song 😉

oh, I understand about being distracted by that video clip. I practically breathed it when it first came out, I watched it so many times! now I’m doing that with The Anglophile interview teaser instead…
the captions were meant to show the opposite of what I was saying in the post, but in a silly way. and yes, this is number 3 of the “55 reasons”, go get caught up! 🙂

Nice post, Kel, and spot on about the conflicting confidence/insecurity thing. I suppose that is something that women can identify with very strongly, a hint of “human” in the demigod 😉 What also contributes to that is this (rather British) thing of superficial self-deprecation – which really is a sign of confidence in my book.
Nice to see that clip again, too.

I’m familiar with the self-depreciation thing, because I do it a lot myself. it defuses the insecurity somehow when you point it out yourself first 🙂

Exactly the same strategy that I use 😀

Ask and you shall receive. I sent a note to you a couple days ago saying I hoped to see #3 thru 55 soon & now here is #3. Thank you! Loved seeing the Esquire clip again; never tire of it. And now I’ll never be able to listen to All About that Bass without visions of RA dancing in my head like sugar plums…can’t stop laughing.
