39.) Photoshoot that makes you smile
David Venni, tagged
I often cite the David Venni photoshoot as my favorite photoshoot overall but the tagged bunch in particular makes me smile. the grey suit with surrounding walls are my favorite, lighthearted but meaningful. it just occurred to me that maybe he’s trying to look fierce?
the hands are prominent throughout the entire series, it’s something that heavily influences my fondness for the shoot as a whole.
and there’s just something about that blue shirt and accompanying facial scruff that I can’t seem to tear my eyes away from!
I’m not sure why these particular shots were overlooked in the untagging process but I still enjoy them, regardless.

What do you mean by “untagged”? Do you mean the watermark on the image? That has been removed yonks ago – on Tumblr, admittedly.
Interesting choice of shoot that makes you smile. Actually, I can see your point – this one would make me smile, too, but maybe not for the same reasons 😉 Although I concede that RA looked very attractive in it…

yes, I mean the watermark. I’ve not seen any clean ones of the grey suit, though I’ve seen some of the other poses.

and now I see the confusion: I typed “untagged” in the post when I meant the opposite 🙄 must have been my subconscious longing for the untagged versions!

Oh, you don’t want to know what makes me smile, and no, it has got nothing to do with the gutter. It is actually not complimentary (to the photographer).

No, not at all. Since you are pressing 😉 – I’ll tell you: I *hate* that shiny suit with a passion. I think it is absolutely ludicrous. And I think the pose between those two rolls of shiny wall paper is even more ludicrous. I hasten to add in careful APM that I blame the photographer.

I would apologize for peer pressuring you into answering but I’m not really sorry 😈 the pose itself is what I like, appearing like he’s trapped or the walls are closing in, etc. I could give or take the clothes themselves, though I would prefer a non sparkly wall myself…

well, I love them *because* they are ludicrous so we’re in agreement there. like in the first pic, it almost looks like he’s running a race with the position his arms are in and yet I think they were probably going for suave and mysterious. and in the second one I feel like he’s supposed to be building up to a roar that will inevitably end in a case of giggles. I resisted captioning them b/c it was a post showcasing the pics themselves but trust me, I would not be coming up blank if I did.

Ah *sigh of relief* – glad to hear that. I only hope that RA felt the same way about that shoot. Cos by cod, if that was meant seriously, something went seriously *wrong* 😉 ([APM on] Mind you, it is slightly unfair blaming him for the photos. It’s the photographer who directs the shoot, so all blame at his door, please… [APM off]
I wish you had captioned the pics – but I realize you would risk the wrath of those fans who a) genuinely like those images and b) do not tolerate (implied) criticism. Maybe behind the scenes…

as for captions, my initial thoughts were along the lines of:
1.) “to the right, to the right, to the right” (the Cupid Shuffle)
2.) “he looks at you like you’re something to eat” (cheesy line from “Twilight”)
3.) “the things I do for England” (James Bond line)
4.) women like that? really? mumbles “I need to renew my Cosmo subscription…”
5.) what’s it gonna take for me to get you into this car today? (used car salesman pitch)

the shiny suit ( i actually wrote sh… by mistake LOL) is so 80′!.. shudders 😉
I really like the one in a t shirt though 🙂 And i do see the car salesman resemblance in the last one! 😀
I like his face in all of them, so fresh and open and animated and the hands, the poses.. ehem…. what people make him do 😉 He’s got a whiff of 80′ drugs/casino lord about him in that get up 😉
But makes me smile too!

I was there when these hit the air and OMG, pelvic floors were dropping all over the planet … I like these photos a lot, too, while acknowledging the silliness of many of them, because of (I’ve said this elsewhere, so forgive me) the “man on the make” feel of them. The stereotypical qualities of the poses and the outfits aside (or perhaps included), the pictures really made me think, here’s a guy who’s trying hard to jump the next step and has good will but is just a bit overwhelmed by the entire process.
