Colleagues Are Okay

Richard Armitage 30 day challenge

18.) Q: your favorite platonic pairing

A: Lucas and Ros

Lucas: Come on then, Ros. Small-talk me a little.
Ros: Okay… um, my perfume is made from the anal glands of cats. I read that in the paper this morning.

Lucas and Ros respected and understood each other. They both kept their personal lives private, and their professional lives focused.

Lucas and Ros worked well together, and found kindred spirits in each other.

      1. Yes, sorry. lol. It’s just an abbreviated way of saying “favorite platonic pairing.” And I absolutely adore Lucas and Ros’s working relationship. I like to imagine that Season 9 would have gone very differently if she had lived.

  1. One of many reasons I stopped watching TV was that I wasn’t seeing women I admired on TV — meeting Ros was a real revelation for me when it happened. What a character she was. I wanted her and Lucas to get together, but someone explained to me that the character arc up till then would have made that impossible. *Love* Ros.

    1. sometimes it’s possible to maintain a meaningful platonic relationship that’s just as important, or oftentimes more so, than a romantic one. for whatever reason, you’ve both agreed that it just would not work as anything other than that. those relationships are very intriguing to me and I think that’s what could have evolved between Lucas and Ros, if given more time.

  2. Yes, yes, yes! So with you on this platonic pairing! They had such a great chemistry together, and the occasional banter just topped it off. Somewhere I read something along the lines of “when I’m grown up, I want to be Ros Myers”. Unfortunately I am already grown up (well, at least agewise), but a girl can dream, can’t she?

    1. I wouldn’t want to be Ros, myself. I admire her focus, but she’s way too cool & calculated for my liking. I’m touchy-feely…and I like to laugh…and eat chocolate-chip cookies until they make me sick; I can’t imagine Ros doing any of that!

      1. I *totally* want to be Ros when I grow up (even though I’m already grown up, supposedly.) That level of cool calculatedness is something I greatly admire and aspire to, especially if it comes with her level of badassery. I admit I am the opposite of touchy-feely (most physical contact is painful or at the very least uncomfortable for me) but I *am* a fan of excess chocolate chip cookie consumption.

      2. Don’t take me too serious on that. 😉 I admire her coolness, and sometimes it would be nice to have that cool charisma. But if I was like her, I would be having a completely different life, and I like mine as it is. And you’re right, we don’t see Ros laughing – you know, that kind of laughter where you have tears in your eyes and gasp for air and hold your belly? I just love to do that, and I can’t imagine a life without hot chocolate! 😉

        1. emotions can be a real pain, but shutting them off just leaves me empty. I laugh a lot! just last night I had one of those laughing fits you described, and it felt sooo good! I’ll suffer through the roller-coaster, if it means experiencing that along the way 🙂

  3. That’s a good platonic pairing, but I’m going to be all geeky and saying ‘Balin’. But maybe there’s not enough interaction with Thorin yet in the movies to count as a platonic pairing, and I just think that Balin is a such a great character. (“more of a letter-opener really”) that I read more into the relationship than is shown. I think that there is a lot of respect between the two.
Of course, Balin has an even better relationship with Bilbo in both the books and movie. He’s a mensch.

    1. when I think of “platonic” I think of someone who you *could* have romantic/sexual feelings for, but don’t. I see Balin as a mentor to Thorin, like an uncle figure; definitely love & respect there though.

**I just looked up “platonic” to see what the actual definition was; Urban Dictionary says “To love someone in an “I don’t want to do you” kind of way.” 😀

      1. To me platonic just means non-sexual. “I don’t want to do you” sums it up, although a few other online dictionaries have the more conventional “intimate and affectionate but not sexual”, “a relationship marked by the absence of romance or sex”.
Ech, the latter sounds like my life. :-/

        1. you’re right, “platonic” just means non-sexual. I’ve just always thought of it in a male/female way, so your answer surprised me at first/ so, instead of “I don’t want to do you” you’re coming at it from an “I love you, man!” angle 😛
