Off Topic: Selfie

Yesterday I got a new pair of glasses. My kids are making me feel really self-conscious about them. My son keeps remarking that they’re too big and my daughter says I look like a female Harry Potter; she loves Harry Potter so that might actually be a compliment, I’m not sure. I wanted to take a picture of myself so that I could see what the glasses really looked like, instead of seeing them shaded by bias in the mirror. (if I stare at myself in the mirror long enough, it can go either way 😉 )

After reading a link that took me to James Franco’s opinion of selfies though, I thought I might gather enough courage to share one. Generally I despise getting my pic taken and so understandably I don’t do selfies normally, but this is what James had to say about them:

I am actually turned off when I look at an account and don’t see any selfies, because I want to know whom I’m dealing with. In our age of social networking, the selfie is the new way to look someone right in the eye and say, “Hello, this is me.”

I wouldn’t want anyone to not know who they’re dealing with 😛 I could have gussied myself up with make-up and actually fixed my hair but I felt like that wouldn’t really be fair; if you knock on my door or run into me at the grocery store this is what I’m going to look like, so…

    1. these ones are a lot rounder than my previous ones, so maybe that’s why they appear bigger *shrugs* I think the real question is: why am I taking fashion advice from my children? 🙄 😛

  4. Hey Cutie! I like the glasses…but you should know that I’m currently sporting a pair very similar. So we either BOTH have great taste in glasses or we are wandering around looking “Sherry Potter” twins.

  5. Well, it must be a RA fan thing. I have some that are even bigger and I’ve had some 7th grade students tell me they were nerd glasses.. I’ve also gotten the Harry Potter remark….although I like Sherry Potter better. I think yours are adorable!

  6. Why, hello Ms Kelbel. Nice to meet you! It’s so funny how we imagine a person whom we only know through her words, to look like. I imagined you were a lighter shade of blonde, for instance.
    Your new glasses look fine! Bigger frames are on trend! And they are not pink but magenta! So it’s all good.

    1. I used to be blonde once upon a time (and still act like it 😛 ) it seems to get darker and darker every year 😕 and yes, the frames are magenta, not pink at all 😀

    1. that might be all you’ve ever seen if you’ve not dug through my Facebook (there are very few pics in there anyways, when my husband tags me in things I yell at him for it 😆 ) I usually go the “goofy hat/ half hidden face route” unless it’s my anniversary, when I post the wedding one b/c I love my husband’s floppy “as you wish” hair 😀

    I think you look lovely in them- I especially like the colour, which i think would go with everything. My last pair were a purply- pink and they were fabulously versatile but this time I was talked into some big, black ones ( a bit hipster) and, quite honestly, they make the rest of me look a bit old fashioned and dorky.

    Take no notice of your children- children generally like mom to be unchanging and conservative, and not drawing attention to herself. They really aren’t the best style guru’s. But then when your daughter turns 15 and starts borrowing your clothes you will know all the eye rolling over the years meant nothing.

    1. I did have the skinnier hipster ones for awhile & then gradually had to go bigger because of the lenses I need, so they probably do seem a lot bigger to them. I don’t think my daughter will want to borrow my clothes because I basically dress like my son half the time 😛 but she does like my jewelry and nail polish 😉

    1. I confuse my kids b/c I don’t act like the typical “soccer mom”. most of the time they like that I’m different (on their level 😆 ) b/c that means we like the same things. the fact that I’m not a push-over like the other moms though can be problematic; you can’t have it all kiddos! 😛

      1. I think the spawn feels similarly about me. We’re into a lot of the same geeky things, I give him shit like one of his friends might, and we can firefight on Halo together, but I’m awfully mean and strict about things like homework and M-rated video games. He gets annoyed at his friends when they tell him his mom is cool. 😉

        1. exactly! (we fight about video game ratings a lot in this house 😐 ) I’m not sure the friends think I’m cool, I hear weird/funny a lot tho 😆 with my mom it was a little bit diff’t, it got to the point where I wouldn’t invite my friends over b/c I didn’t want them to like my mom more than they liked me 😕 I don’t play electric guitar in a band or ride a Harley, so I think my kids are safe from that 😛
