When trying to think of a “c” word for the A-Z Challenge, The Barenaked Ladies song Call and Answer would not leave me alone! So, what follows is a verse-by-verse representation using pictures from Sparkhouse ( A LOT of pictures )
[the link will take you to the song on YouTube, in a separate window, so you can play it in the background while following along with the lyrics in this post]
I think it’s getting to the point where I can be myself again
It’s getting to the point where we have almost made amends
I think it’s the getting to the point that is the hardest part
And if you call, I will answer
And if you fall, I’ll pick you up
And if you court this disaster
I’ll point you home, I’ll point you home
You think I only think about you when we’re both in the same room
I’m only here to witness the remains of love exhumed
You think we’re here to play a game of who loves more than whom
And if you call, I will answer
And if you fall, I’ll pick you up
And if you court this disaster
(musical interlude)
You think it’s only fair to do what’s best for you and you alone
It’s only fair to do the same to me when you’re not home
I think it’s time to make this something that is more than only fair
So if you call, I will answer
And if you fall, I’ll pick you up
And if you court this disaster
I’ll point you home
But I’m warning you don’t ever do those crazy messed up things that you do
If you ever do I promise you I’ll be the first to crucify you
Now it’s time to prove that you’ve come back here to rebuild
rebuild
rebuild
rebuild
rebuild…

Beautiful, I love it Kelbel 🙂
He’s done a great job in “Sparkhouse”, hasn’t he?

I love John Standring! and it’s fascinating to watch how Richard uses body language to portray him, instead of just words.

Thank you so much for this post Kelbel. The song was the perfect choice for these pictures even though I wasn’t that familiar with it before.
I thought Richard was brilliant in Sparkhouse even though the violence was hard to take at times. I love this quote from Annette’s RAOnline.com website; “As Thornton, he uses his height to convey authority and power, but as Standring he stoops and hangs his head. It’s an unselfish, convincing performance, and is one of his most appealing characters.” How true! I actually wasn’t sure if I’d want to watch it having seen little snippets of it on YT but I went ahead and bought it anyway a few years ago now and I’m very happy that I did. From the shy farmer he turns into a stunningly handsome man when he has his hair cut. His true masculine beauty as well as his goodness as a person finally gets a chance to shine through.

I avoided watching Sparkhouse because the synopsis just didn’t grab me. but then someone on one of the forums suggested I really should watch it; I’m so glad I took that advice!

I love John Standring; he’s my second, behind Harry. I’ve always loved this song too; they have a really good “greatest hits” album, it has a permanent place on my mp3 player 😎
